"Revolutionizing Carbon Reduction"

Markets and Programs

Global Climate Strategies develops, finances, aggregates and invests in projects that reduce Greenhouse Gases (GHGs). The reductions are quantified by using a measurement of the amount of equivalent Carbon Dioxide reduction that is achieved. Some Greenhouse gases are much more damaging than CO2. For example, each tonne of methane is equivalent to 21 tonnes of CO2 in global warming potential. The unit of measurement we use to measure reductions are metric tonnes of CO2 equivalent. (mtCO2e).

These reductions are then packaged, certified and sold according to a number of factors, such as where the reduction occurred, how it was verified and the type of project that caused the offset. There are a myriad of standards and market opportunities involved in both the voluntary and compliance markets.

Some of the certified reductions we deal with are Certified Emission Reduction (CER), Verified Emission Reduction (VER, VER+), Joint Initiative ERU, Gold Standard and Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX). In understanding the markets and buyers, we are able to tailor and direct our projects to optimize their financial performance. This enables us to continually extend our reach into new projects and regions.

Project Types currently underway

  • Energy Efficiency
  • Forestry
  • Transportation (fuel switching)
  • Methane Capture
  • Recycling / Bio-fuel
  • Renewable Energy

Project areas currently involved

  • US
  • Canada
  • Central America
  • South America
  • Asia

Global Climate Strategies follows all applicable UN certified methodologies for our projects and we obtain third-party certifications from recognized entities. The approved methodologies are evolving, as are the coming compliance standards such as RGGI, Lieberman-Warner and EU-ETS Phase III. We are long-term investors in projects and therefore monitor all projects to ensure continued compliance as the standards and methods evolve.
